Read more than a few Google reviews before you decide where to bring your car/truck. That was the mistake I made. My F250 threw a code on I75 while towing. It was also leaking a little transmission fluid from the oil cooler line. AAA brought my truck in on a flat bed Tuesday night between Christmas and New Year’s. Angel told us that there was plenty of fluid reading on the dipstick, which was good because I had just had it serviced with good quality Amsoil fluid. She seemed reassuring and put me at ease. She read the code, which was a fluid temperature sensor and harness. I asked that the parts be ordered, that my Amsoil be saved and I retired to the Super 8. The next day Angel informed me that I had metal flakes in my pan which “indicated internal damage was occurring that could not be corrected by minor repair.” I acknowledge that I should have taken a moment to think about this and to call my mechanic back home because I knew that my transmission had been shifting fine, it was not slipping, it did not smell bad or make any noises, none of which she asked me about and she did not test drive it. I was a weary traveler however, and I regret that I agreed to have them open it and diagnose the “problem.” She texted me a photo of the “metal flakes.” The next day she gave me the news that I needed a complete overhaul, which coincidently cost $3405 and I was approved for $3500 worth of credit on a new card that she recommended and applied for on my behalf. I thought it was odd that she told me the trans had overheated, when I knew it had definitely NOT overheated because I have an Insight Edge monitor on my diesel truck. My son and I went in first thing Thursday morning (New Year’s Eve) and looked at the transmission laid out on the bench. It was clear to us that the wear on the clutch plates and gears were normal for 72k miles (we work on motorcycles and the clutches are similar), the residual fluid was cherry red and smelled fine. At that point however, I realized it would be stupid to put old parts back in the trans so I approved the overhaul kit. Monday morning, we still did not have the oil cooler line and I was being told it would be there Wednesday. It seemed to me that it had not been ordered the prior week. I was about to cry because I had already had to rent a U-Haul, I had missed my flight home, and every day I spent in TN I was not getting paid to work. Tuesday, the R&R tech put the trans back in the truck with the old cooler line which miraculously did not leak, so I took it as is. I had to ask for a refund on the cooler line part and R&R fee because everything was already charged to my new credit card. I showed my mechanic the picture of the “metal flakes” that Angel had texted me when I got home. He told me that any trans with 72k on it will have metal flakes on the magnet, indeed he “would expect it as normal wear.” I felt stupid for unquestioningly believing Angel. Buyer beware – I heard her and Julie tell two other customers that they had metal in their pans while I was there. I am sensing a trend and I am $3100 more in debt. Management will comment and ask that I contact them directly, which of course I have already done to no avail.
